This is a good workout for anyone. You can choose to do excercises that are easy or intense. I like that it folds up nicely for easy storage. I have had my gazelle for over two years and its still working great.
The gazelle is everything you need!

Just 3 weeks ago, I came here looking at reviews for the Tony Little's Gazelle Freestyle, and read mixed reviews. However, most were encouraging, and I thought it sounded like the thing for me. I have now used the gazelle for less than 2 weeks, and have already seen results!

This is no lie -- I lost 2 inches in the waist, 2 in the hips, 2 in the abdomin, and 2 in the thighs. I'm just as freaked as you may be, but I'm telling you, this is the honest truth!

I was discouraged that I had not been seeing any results on the scales lately, and needed to change things up, so I'd see something move again. This gazelle did it for me. At this time, I'm only up to 30 minutes a day, and 1-3/4 miles... I'm still a work in progress. But these results are no lie. Just think how much results I'll see when I can stay on longer! They advertise it as a low impact overall machine, and it truly is. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia, so I was looking for something I could do that wouldn't hurt me. I can honestly say I get a full workout on this machine... oh, I forgot to mention, also 1 inch in the arms. So, that's a total of 9 inches in 2 weeks.

This is the best machine I've ever used, (we also have an exercise bike, and ab lounge, which I've not used in the last 2 weeks at all, cause I was getting such a good workout on the gazelle) and I'm so happy I found it. And I thank you people, users of Amazon.com, for coming here and posting your reviews, and making it easy on me to know which machine to buy. Mine is the exact picture above, and folds up. I also love that feature. It's not a problem to just fold it up and lean it against the wall beside my bed after each use. Therefore, I've still got lots of walking space beside my bed.
It's GREAT! Just make sure you've researched it enough to know what to expect!

I actually ordered mine from JC Penney, since I got a GREAT price on it by way of an advertising error on their part... Either way, I only got it last night, and didn't find it too difficult to assemble just going by the sheet instructions. It IS quite heavy weight in construction, which I definitely count as a plus.

The one thing that I can see that, so far, hasn't been mentioned in the reviews is, if you're on the heavier side (I'm 210 lbs at 5'5" tall, the heaviest I've EVER been - ick!!!), and wide through the hips, it doesn't SEEM particularly roomy when you're on the machine. I DID have a great time exercising on it last night after assembling it, though!

If you love elliptical machines, as I do (they were my only motivation for going to the gym, and every time I went, I had to wait at least 20 minutes to get on one, so I cancelled my membership... Now I've got my own, dagnabbit! ;) ), you should really like this machine.

I don't know if they're as squeaky over time as the other reviews state, but I'd assume that they are. Also, I live in a single bedroom apartment, and don't have a lot of room left over to leave this standing up. The main problem? I'd planned on sliding it under my futon when I'm not using it, but everything but the handles will fit - the handles just sit too high up to fit underneath it. It IS a heavy piece, as I said before, so a bit unwieldy, but the wheels on both the bottom of the rear frame, and the foot pedal pieces, help for maneuvering it.

If you're not big on exercise, as I am not unless it's fun for me, but love cross trainer and elliptical machines, then I'd suggest you get this, if it's not more money than you want to spend. It does take a little initial exercise to figure out your rhythm, but once you get going, it's GREAT! I woke up this morning eager to get back on it and go, and I haven't felt that way about exercise in YEARS, if ever!
A solidly built, joint friendly, inexpensive cardio solution.

Reviewer: DHGroove,
I have had the Gazelle Freestyle for 5 years now, and its still chuggin' along just fine. When I first started using this machine, I was 24 and in the worst shape of my life at 315lbs (6'1"). I needed something that was easy on the joints, as well as something that was built well enough to support my weight. The Gazelle did both.

While putting it together, I made sure to WD40 the areas that could squeek, and mine has operated silently since. Never did I have any sense of it breaking under my weight.

Getting my heart rate up with this thing was easy, and the thumb sensor was a nice touch. However, after dropping my first 40-50 lbs, I decided to get a real heart rate monitor to use for High Intensity Interval Training. Since then the onboard display has stopped working due to the battery dying (which can be replaced), but I have no need for it now. I know a lot of people here are saying that this doesn't have enough resistance and that they can't get a good cardio workout. This is simply not true, if you know how to use it. I hardly used the DVDs that came with mine, but here are a couple tips to maxing out your Heart Rate and getting a good cardio workout on this.

1. Use full motion strides to the point where your legs almost hit the front bar. Make sure to rotate your hips inorder to engage your abs for this.
2. Lean Back and use your arms to pull your legs up towards the front. This will give your back and biceps a good workout.
3. Lean Forward and use your arms to push you legs back as far as they can go. Your chest and triceps will be definitely feel it after 15-30 secs.

In short, I used this machine along with a simple weight bench (for muscle training)to go from 315 to 185 in 9 months. I also used the Body-For-Life nutritional and exercise plan for the last 4 months. Now I was pretty hardcore, but I want people to know that this machine makes that possible if you go for it. For those still skeptical about getting a good cardio workout, I can still get my heart rate up to 195 on this thing, and I consider myself to be in very good shape (resting heart rate of 45-50).

So in short:

Pros:

1. Solid Build Quality. I used at 315lbs with no problems. Use WD40 on squeek-prone areas.
2. Inexpensive. I grabbed one for $150, and it has lasted me 5 years.
3. Stores upright against a wall or under a bed.
4. Provides a great cardio workout provided you know how to use the machine correctly.
5. Also can work Abs/Back/Bis/Tris/Chest when shifting weight from back to front and vice versa.

Cons:

1. Heart Rate Monitor is very basic, and sometimes gave strange readings. The "thumb pulse" area of the handlebar can get a little slippery with heavy perspiration.
2. Can be a little awkward to operate at first. I would use in front of a mirror so you can see what you are doing at first.
Finally - Exercise I actually ENJOY!

We bought our Gazelle in March of 2004 and my husband and I each use it every day - 2 to 3 miles each! It has had it's squeaky problems, but my husband says it just needs some routine maintenance. I have very bad knees and am still able to use this - since it is very low impact. I've lost 60 pounds and my husband has lost 69 pounds! (We are also eating right!) I've never found any exercise that I enjoy - until now! The key is also to use music - Tony Little Fit Trax or Curves Freedom Music are both excellent! The music keeps you going, keeps you motivated and makes it more fun! We love it!

I bought my gazelle at wal-mart two weeks ago and I have already seen results, I work out 30 minutes twice a day and In only 2 weeks I've lost 15 lbs and I feel great!!! Also I take the stacker 2 diet pill 45 minutes before exercising and it increases my workout, causing me to burn more fat. I have weighed 225 lbs since my first child was born, that is about 75lbs heaver than I use to weigh, I have 3 children at home and dont have time to go to the gym. So you could only emagine the way I felt when I realized I was actually loosing weight so fast with this machine. I've heard all about the squeaking and when mine began to squeak all I did was loosing the bolts to the axel bar and put wd40 on them. If everyone would look at the direction's it clearly states to only "HAND TIGHTEN" the bolts and I have noticed if the bolts on my machine are to tight my gazelle will squeak loudly, but loosing them a little help tremendously. I would recomend this machine to anyone. Also to the lady who said she was to short for the gazelle, well I am only 5'4 also and I wear a size 8 shoe as well and I have absolutely no problem using the gazelle, all I do when I want to do a wide range workout is slightly bend my knee's, this give's me the wide range Tony Little show's in his picture and also streaches my leg's and I can feel more in my thigh's. So if anyone is thinking about buying this machine I give it 5 star's and recommend it to anyone. And if you are afraid to take a chance on this machine I say buy it at wal-mart that way if you are'nt satisfied with it you can return it!!!
This is healthy fun

Hello readers who are intersested in purchasing a gazelle or already have one, Although i am only 14 years old, i think the gazelle is one of the best workout products i have ever been on or own. In my house, we have the gazelle, the ab roller, the ab situp machine, the nortic track tredmill, the rowing machine, and pull up/ leg lifter/ab maker workout machine and i always hed straight for the gazelle. On the other machines i get bored within 5 minutes and with the gazelle, i think it it a fun workout which also increases your felxibility. Seriously, if you are even only considering buying it.. you should. Its a great buy that will stay with you.. unlike your unwanted fat.
Great machine for beginners or out of shape people!

This machine is everything Tony Little promises it to be. I am an out of shape mom who doesn't have the time to go out to workout, so this fits the bill. It folds up nicely and is very easy to take out/put away. My husband and I both use it and the kids are always asking to use it (which I don't allow-I don't think it should be used by children). All in all, a fabulous purchase for a skeptic like me.
Buy it you'll see the difference

There 3 gazelle machines: I bought the Gazelle Freestyle. I saw the comercial on tv, then search in the different web sites. Then decide to buy it in store pickup I wanted right away! About the product: What I love about it is that you can do your body stretch in the machine. For those who are not so good building things by reading the paper instructions, just use the vhs tape, foward 30 minutes at the end of the training part there are instructions to build; so much easier than reading the paper instructions. When building try not to tight too much the plastic peaces for the corners or they will brake (they are just covers to make the machine look good in the corners). "I only have a little complaint the tape included is for gazelle Platinum, not the one I bought, but is just some minor differences." After builded at first you feel like swinging, and is good so you get acostume to the machine. Then, get your sneakers, and lose clothes "confortable", rewind your tape and start the training with Mr little, for the begineers 10 minutes is just enough the only thing is that you won't feel any sweat in your body, but if you continue the training at 15 minutes you will see the first drop of sweat, (an advise for all of you even though Mr. Little seems to move faster and wider than you - don't force yourself too much or you will get an injure, with time you will get to be as fast and as good as it looks). After the 30 minutes tape trainer you will sweat as good as Mr. Little. I just mention about the sweat because someone in the rewies mention that he did not sweat at all even though he was a heavy guy and he returned the gazelle. Me, I weight 240 pounds and after the 30 minutes tape trainer I was sweating good enough. I'm glad I bought this item is a low impact NO much effort in your nees. After you get familiar with the machine it feels just like walking and jogging is like a treadmill but better! You'll feel upper n lower body work out specially when you lean foward is hard to do it. About the food I guess is up to you to follow Mr. Little menu. The machine is really quiet. Hope this review is helpull to someone at least it covers the mayor points people would like to see from someone that has experience using the machine for first time.
Excellent way to get a good workout

I love this machine. It is so nice to get a good total body workout with just one machine. If you don't have a lot of time to devote to different workouts, or if you just want to get your workout over with...then this machine is great.

I have been doing aerobics for about a year now and have had to scale back some due to an injury, but this machine allows me to have a good aerobic workout without any impact on my injured ankles and feet. Before I had this I was using an exercise bike, but I was unsatisfied because I wasn't getting a total body workout. Now I can get the benefits of a great workout and not aggravate my injuries.

I had no problems putting it together. It took me about 30 minutes to get it together. It does fold up, but it is not easily movable on carpet.

Overall I am very satisfied with this product. It was affordable and easy to assemble and gives a great complete workout.
Outstanding Exercise Machine

Have owned this machine for two months, choosing it over several circa-thousand dollar treadmills and elipticals which had repeated notations of problems due to inferior parts.

Assembly was a snap.

My wife and I have both lost weight, several inches of fat, restored muscles that were badly out of shape, but most importantly, feel energized again. We use it every day.

If there is a better low impact workout machine for the price, I don't know what it would be.

If you are looking for a good upper and lower body workout, this machine will do the job well. Weighs less than 56 pounds, but it is solid as can be during use.

Accuracy of the electronic readout might be somewhat suspect, but I don't rely on it anyway.

running machine from heaven

Reviewer: J. Beltran,
this is an awesome machine, i had one previously and then i gave it to a friend, and never got it back. in any case all the better because now i have a new one and i am in love with it! it helps to align hips, knees, running stance and stride appropriately so after having trained on it for a short while, then running on ground at track becomes better because my body has become molded to running correctly rather than the incorrect way with knees going inward, and stride becoming choppy or wobbly. this machine makes it far easier for females to run making the feet and legs directly shoulder width apart allowing for a stride that will remain good for the abs, back, legs, knees, and feet. (this is of course all my opinion, but as i have used this machine for approx. 9 years, and noticing all the positive advances i have made using it, i figure this message is valid)
Ignored squeeking problem and it finally went away!

I bought my gazelle second hand a couple of years ago. Shortly after using it, the squeeking that some people have mentioned started up. It still was not nearly the noise level that my treadmill puts out. I greased it and that lasted a few days. I finally decided to just use it anyway, because I absolutely loved the gazelle more than any other exercise equipment I have ever used. Finally after a few months I realized the noise just stopped on it's own. Now it never squeeks. One tip for anyone having a hard time with the pads hurting their feet: Get a couple pieces of high density foam and velcro them to the bottom. I love my gazelle so much that I am going to buy another one so I can keep one in my home gym in the basement, and one for upstairs in the livingroom.
Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

Before I brought the Gazelle Freestyle I wanted to know if I would be required to walk, if I would have to bend my knees, and if I would get a overall workout. I have not been disappointed! -I have Plantar Facitis so this make it difficult for me to walk; I also have bad knees. I received the Gazelle Freestyle three weeks ago and my life has turned around because my feet are pain free-no walking, my knees don't have to bend-100 extra points! and my whole body get a workout! 1000 extra points. I would recommend this Gazelle Freestyle to the young and old. Take my word -there is not a better replacement. It is worth every dime I spent on it and I am 100 percent satisfied.

I actually own the Gazelle Elite. This is the best aerobic machine I have used, and I have used them all. No impact on knees or hips. Very easy to use. It is a little awkward to move around. I usually use it when I am watching TV and the time goes by fast. Better to be doing the Gazelle while watching the TV instead of just sitting on your butt.

You can't get a better product for a cardio workout, especially if you have bad knees or leg/feet problems and a treadmill could hurt the body. It is easy to put together, folds up and there is no impact on the body when you use it. I bought one of these for my mother who also uses it every day and finds it easy to use. I think it is a very good product and you couldn't get a better workout even if you spent a lot more money.

I don't have a chance to go to fitness center regularly. I had backache and keep put on weight (36 lb in 3 years) and feel so tired. The only option was having sth at home. I searched for many products like treadmills, bicycles, elliptical, etc. I was looking for sth cheap and works well for all parts of my body. I read customer reviews for each one to see how they work in real life. Then I decided to buy an elliptical. According to customer reviews Gazelle was chosen the 2nd best elliptical. it was a good reason to buy it.
I have had Gazelle for 1 months and happy with it. it works all muscles and tighten the body. I started South Beach Diet and spend 30 min on Gazelle every 2 days. it helped me to loose weight. I don't have backache any more. I advice to define your problem and search what you need as a solution and read all reviews to make sure it is a real solution for you.

After I read the reviews at Amazon and other places and because of the problems people had with the pistons (that create resistance) on the more expensive models. I decided to get the Freestyle Gazelle. Amazon shipped it by truck. It arrived in 3 days. No damage. The assembly instructions were easy to follow. One thing was missing. The writen instructions said a video of the assembly was on the DVD but it wasen't on the one they sent me. The excersise video was helpfull. I set it up in my room. It takes up about 41"x24" unfolded. .You need an additional 12" of space in front and back for the swing arms. The distance between the tubes where you stand when using the Gazelle is 18". This may not be anough room for some people. I'm 14" across at the hips so I had a couple of inches on each side. Some were complaining about it squeaking. So I sprayed WD40 on all the moving parts. I can watch TV and excersise. It doen't make any noise. I am happy with the purchase. I recomend it to anyone that is looking for excersise equipment that is light weight, doen't use very much space and only has around $200.00 to spend.
Perfect for at Home Workouts!

I am so thrilled with my Gazelle Freestyle. It was easy to put together and even easier to use (once I got the coordination thing down :-D). The video that comes with it makes the machine worth the money. Sharon Money Twombly is easy to listen to and gives a great workout for all levels of fitness. It's easy on the joints as well.

I bought this because I didn't want to pay to go to a gym, and I didn't want to pay the big bucks for an elliptical. With the Gazelle, you get strength, stretching/range of motion and cardio all in one!

You won't be disappointed if you learn to use it.

Word of caution: go easy for the first few times and STRETCH really well after... otherwise you will be very sore for two or three days.

So, I bought this machine because I'm disgustingly overweight because... well... I didn't handle being pregnant very well, especially when oops, 4 months after baby 1 is born you find out baby 2 is on it's way. SO, I now have 2 babies and am pretty much glued to the indoors. I've been using the machine for about 2 weeks, 4 times a week, after the first week I had a 3.6 lb weight loss, and by the end of week 2 my clothes are definitely getting baggier (best part is when my hubby hugs me there's a definite difference in the ammount of arm required for him to have his hands meet)
Now that I'm done gushing on to the important facts:
Relatively easy assembly, but I reccommend using a ratcheting screwdriver with a 1/2 inch bolt tightener thingy instead of the wrenches they provide (those are frustrating because they can just slide off and you have to keep repositioning them)
DO NOT assemble on carpet, the axel rod or whatever it's called is in a plastic bag and completely coated in a thick layer of what appears to be petroleum jelly, very messy.
The listing on here says it has a 300 lb maximum user weight limit, but the book that comes with the machine says 350, so that's a nice bonus.
I really enjoy the DVD workout that comes with it, the instructor is Sharon Money Twombly and I find her upbeat attitude very encouraging while sweating my brains out, also the workout has many different motions, so the 30 minutes just zooms by.
The only problem I've experienced while using this machine is severe foot pain, but that is ONLY because of how severely overweight I am, and after purchasing foot "orthotic" shoe inserts (about [...] at wally world) the problem is almost completely resolved.
Doesn't fold up very easily (heavy and awkward), but that's fine with me, I use it so often that I just leave it set up in my bedroom.
lastly: use the workout on the DVD! you won't get a good workout if you just use it to swing your legs around.
