By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips. Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home. Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints. |

After much research, I bought this one

***Update 12/21/2007***
Well, I've had this machine for about two weeks now and it works great. I am completely satisfied with this purchase. I was a little concerned about shipping, but mine came in perfect condition. Like others, it took me little under 3 hours to put it together. If you can put a screw in and follow directions, you'll be able to put this together. The machine is so smooth and quiet. It's no problem for others in the room to watch TV at the same time. After a week, I started to notice a clicking sound and it turned out I had tightened the screw that connects the handle bar to the foot pedal bar too tight. Loosening it a little fixed the problem.
***Original review***
- I should start by saying I just bought the Schwinn 431 from Amazon, but haven't received it yet so my total usage of it is only the 15 minutes or so I spent trying a demo model at a store. However, I spent a lot of time demoing various brands and some of my research may help you decide what's best for you. My price point was also under $1000. You can definitely find better, but you'll pay for it. First, just some general things I found while demoing ellipticals.
* Machines with the wheel in the front seemed to have a better, more natural feeling movement than those in the rear.
* Stride length of 18" worked best for me (I'm 5'5"). Some low end models had 16" stride, but I found this to be too short. Others had 20" or 21" but these were too big for me.
* I don't think you'd want to buy an elliptical for less than $500. They're just too cheap feeling.
I narrowed my search to three brands, based on the reviews I read on Amazon and also on a website that has lots of reviews of treadmills and ellipticals ("treadmill sensei").
Horizon
Most chain stores carry the Horizon brand. I looked at two models: Horizon Ex56 (Horizon EX55 seems to be the older model) and Horizon EX66. These two are basically the same, with the EX66 just having a few more bells and whistles (i.e. more programs, etc.). I believe the internal mechanisms to be pretty much the same. These were well sized to fit into my smaller house. $600-$800. Overall, these seemed like a nice machine, and I almost bought the ex56, as I didn't think the extra $200 really gave me much more. The EX66 does look a bit more sleek and has 2 extra support legs that could provide better stability.
Sole
I wanted to try the Sole 25, but the store I looked at only had the next model up, the 35. These machines are a bit pricier, actually the 25 was "on sale" for $999 with a MSRP of $1999 (I don't think anyone every pays the MSRP though) and the 35 is more. Both have a 20" stride length, and this was just too big for me. For a taller person, this might be fine. The machine itself is bigger and I would have a harder time fitting it into my house. In general, the motion was very smooth. This seems like a well built machine if you have the space and money. Sole seems to have a pretty good warranty too.
Schwinn
I didn't expect Schwinn to make ellipticals. Actually, they don't. This brand falls under the Nautilus brand, which also makes bowflex, nautilus and stairmaster. I looked at the 430 and 431, (431 seems to be the later model and has more bells and whistles, like more programs, a fan and rubber pads on the foot pedals instead of just hard plastic ones on the 430, a bigger cup holder!). Consumer reports actually recommended the 418. The model numbering is strange, the 418 and 438 go together, and the 430 and 431 are similar. The 431 is smaller in size, about the same as the Horizon EX56. The price for the 430 is $600 and the 431 $800. I ended up going with the 431 (there is a promotion going on for a $100 gift card so that brings the price closer). In general both the 430 and 431 felt the same, except the rubber pads on the pedals did feel nicer with better grip for your shoes. This machine actually feels better than the horizon line due to the 25lb flywheel, vs. only 14lbs for the Horizon. This really makes the stride feel smoother. This machine also felt more solid than Horizon. The only problem with this brand is that it was hard to find a demo machine. Another potential drawback is the warranty, which is 15 year frame, 1 year parts, and 6 months labor.
Your best bet is to actually get on the machine and try them out before you buy! Good Luck! |
A great elliptical trainer for the price!

I just bought one of these from a local "Play It Again Sports" location and I must say I'm impressed with the sturdy manufacturing. (I'd recommend you ask your local store for a price. I saved $100 over Amazon's price!) It has a very smooth ride and feels very sturdy even when I ride it at a quick rate. I'm 215 lbs and I have it set up on Berber carpet and it still feels very sturdy!
The assembly took me about 2 hours and it wasn't very difficult. Schwinn (er, Nautilus) did a good job of packing all of the nuts and washers in a very organized way where there is no doubt what is what. The instructions were very easy to follow and didn't require any tools other than the ones included in the box.
I'm very happy with this unit. It has a wonderful selection of 20 different programs built in and has 16 levels of resistance as well. The heart rate monitor is well placed and seems to work well for me. The lack of a chest strap compatibility feature wasn't a big deal for me since I don't use a chest strap and have never liked them, but be aware of this short-coming if that option matters to you.
Overall, I think this is a good deal and a solid machine. Now I just need to start getting up and using it every morning! |
Great Elliptical Trainer

I started looking at the Schwinn product through Consumer Reports, which gave the 418 model their best buy label. After reviewing all the Schwinn Elliptical's, you find they are all made basically the same; some have additional bells and whistles.
I read every review on each of the four models, the 418, 430, 431 and the 438. The reviews were so helpful in making a good decision. We should all appreciate the reviewers who take the time to give lots of details for products. I decided to go with the 431 for several reasons. I originally was interested in the 438 model but after the New Year when I went to purchase the price jumped up to $100.00 more than it had been before Christmas. So, I decided on the 431. It was 799.00 and free super saver shipping from Amazon.
It was delivered ahead of schedule like other reviews said it might be, but the delivery company called and we set up the date and time for delivery. It was a local company. I had them deliver it into the attached garage. My husband opened the box in garage and brought parts into the den as he needed them, much easier that way. They usually will only deliver ground level or a few steps. It actually comes in a small box.
My husband put it together while he was watching a football game, 3 1/2 hours. He said it was easy, everything was clearly marked and they give you the tools you need. We were worried about the height issue that other reviewers commented on. However, we have no problems. My husband is 5'11 and the ceiling in our den is 7'4" and it's perfect. There's room above his head.
This model has the back light which is very nice and multiple programs which are great for me because I like to mix it up. There are also multiple user modes so we can both track our progress. The 431 is more compact than the others and fits perfectly in our den. We used an extra piece of carpet from when new carpet was installed in the den and put it under the machine instead of buying a mat and it works great and matches the carpet.
We have both used the machine for two weeks now and we both really love this machine. It's smooth, quiet, and gives a good work out. My legs were sore after my first use. The programs are fun and easy to use. It gives read outs like the gym model which I like. My husband is a big guy, weights over 200lbs and the machine is very sturdy.
If this machine holds up like most of the reviewers said, we will be a very happy and slimmer couple.

I am so glad that I finally made a decision about which elliptical to purchase. After pratically ruining my ocular nerves from the hours and hours of internet searching, I bought the Schwinn 431. I normally will shy away from brand new models- however, the heavier flywheel is what really sold me. And what a difference it makes! Like many others, I've tried various other ellipticals, and I actually bought this one sight unseen. At $799 a pop, I think one word my wife used to describe me was, "Crazy!". It arrived within the time-frame quoted, and the box was not damaged. The only damage occured with the shroud covering the flywheel. It's made of plastic and must have cracked sometime between China and my house in CA. (I'll let you know how replacing it was once I'm finished with that.) I had that thing built in just under 3 hours, alone. I added white-grease on all the points that move. My wife and I have yet to put it through hours of work, however, based upon what use it has had, this is one smooth, solid piece of equipment. The frame is thick and feels solid. The only time I felt a bit uneasy was when I tried it backwards. Nothing huge, but something to be noted. Lastly, the stride length of 18" is great for both my wife and I. I'm 5'11", and she's 5'5". Both of us are comfortable and confident we made the right decision. More to come once we use it more.

| I have just recently purchased the Schwinn 431 Elliptical Trainer. I did quite a bit of research on the various models before making my decision. I can only say that this Elliptical Trainer is the very best for its' price range. In fact, it is better than many of the higher priced machines that are available. One of the deciding factors is that this model has the 25 lb. flywheel, which makes the operation very smooth and helps to stabilize the machine. It is very well constructed, very smooth, and very quiet. I put it together in an hour and a half. It was money well spent! I would definitely recommend this model for in-home use. Best of all, it's made in the U.S.A. |
$999 is the Wrong List Price - There is no 20% discount.

$999 is not the correct list price--there is no 20% savings. Check out the Schwinn website www.schwinn.com and you will see a list price of $799.00 (99 cents cheaper). Most places offer it at a similar price.
Price aside, this is a wonderful machine. Near club quality. Easy assembly, good craftsmanship. Smooth and sturdy with a small space requirement for an elliptical. You won't be disappointed. |
Squeaking Problem Fixed!

I did quite a bit of research online (and a few store trials) before settling on this machine. The price was great (with the $100 Amazon gift card) and the free shipping was fast. We got it in January and assembly was a snap except that one of the pre-threaded holes stripped during assembly. I called Schwinn directly and had a replacement handlebar in 2 days.
** A few days after putting it together it started squeaking horribly in the middle of a workout (usually 5-10 minutes after beginning). I was able to isolate the noise and found that it came from the main axis that connects the lower handlebars to the unit. Although the instructions say to "thoroughly tighten these connections" I found that slightly loosening them (only a quarter turn if that) made the noise disappear completely and it hasn't come back. **
It's quiet and rides great. My wife uses it almost everyday and I should be using it much more! :-) |
Great machine, pending issue........

I paid $749 through Amazon (with a $100 off promotion) and received the machine a week ago. (An earlier delivery date was somehow missed by the shipping company CEVA.) It initially took me about 2.5 hours to assemble plus additional time once I looked over my work and discovered a few minor mistakes. See assembly tips below.
I had to decide between the 430 and 431 and included some observations. Someone noted in a post that the 431 model might be built using a little thicker tubing although I didn't see them side by side to confirm. Schwinn claims the 431 is built for up to 300lbs versus 275lbs for the 430. The mechanics on the two models are the same with a 25lb flywheel providing great stability. In addition to holding more weight, the 431 has more upgrades of which a few seemed worth the extra $150 in my case....the padded pedals, backlit console, a bigger, user friendlier bottle holder (which will hold a lot of other things like a remote!), and added aesthetic touches. The fan is below average at best as it just doesn't produce much of a breeze. The 431 looks more high end than the 430 due to the covers on the arm pivots and underneath the console. They hide a lot of the welding work.
The machine itself is very sturdy and feels solid. I'm 6' 210lbs and it doesn't sway or move. Very quiet! The level settings give a nice range of resistance and options so you won't outgrow this machine. The smaller footprint compared to other makes and models is a huge plus if you have limited space. Also of note, the length of the labor warranty is not 6 months as the description states but 3 months according to the Schwinn website and manual.
Overall, despite the mechanical issue noted below, I like the machine and it seems to be just want I was looking for. I'm torn on the rating because if the tracks weren't an issue, it'd be an easy five. I'll give it a five anyway. Customer service seems to be more than accommodating from what I've read from other posts.
When I contact and get a response from Schwinn, install new tracks, and put some extensive exercise time on it, I'll update the post.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
AN IMPORTANT MECHANICAL ISSUE WITH MY MACHINE:
---For those who bought or are going to buy this or another model, take careful notice of how the wheels lay in the tracks (Schwinn calls them Extrusion Assemblies). I got on the machine facing backwards and wanted to make sure the wheels moved equally well. They don't on mine. I noticed even with my full weight on the machine, one wheel (the left one) on each pair didn't move with the same force as the other in it's pair
In exercise position, I can actually move the 2 wheels in question with my hand. This could lead to major issues in the future!!
I lifted the machine from the back as if I was going to move it and I can see one wheel of each pair is not touching the track. One of them is very high off and the other slightly. The one track actually looks like it is leaning left compared to the other. I reversed the tracks to see what would happen and the problem followed the track. The higher wheel is now part of the other pair.
After putting the machine down, I ran my fingers under the sides of the tracks and felt a distinct difference in clearance on the left side of the worse rail which confirms what I saw earlier......one track leans left! Hoping it is just bent tracks and not a frame issue, I'm going to call Schwinn and ask for 2 new tracks.
It's not the kind of thing that's noticable unless you look for it. I don't think the machine will sustain operating properly with most of your weight on 1 of the 2 wheels per side. It could also put strain on other parts.
Take a look at your machine!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few points to keep in mind when assembling:
1. When you put the arm pivot rod on, it may take some hits with a hammer or preferable a mallet. As I hammered in, I noticed the black spacer coming out the other end so watch for this. It'll have to be put back in place. You also have to equal out the rod by eyesight.
2. When you put the black movement arm wire cover on, don't force it. One side snapped right into the pivot shoulder cover while the other just didn't sit well hitting one or more of the bolts. If you loosen the bolts holding the arms (there is some play there) and retighten it in a slightly different position, the cover should fit better.
3. When you attach the console, make sure you run the long wire though the center and run the fan wire up though the hole at the top and connect both wires to the back of the console. For those who's fans don't work, you may have plugged into the wrong connectors. I did this the first time and thought my fan was broken. Test everything before you attach the console. Save yourself time and aggrevation.
4. Like many, I used white grease where I thought it would help.
5. I didn't tighten bolts on movement parts all the way as this seems to eventually cause squeaks. I aimed for a quarter or have turn away from fully tightened. |

When shopping for an elliptical, I was a little skeptical with the price point on this machine. Buying through Amazon though, I felt like if it was horrible I could return it and so took the risk.
I'm completely happy with this machine. There is no difference between the quality of workout with this than any gym machine. It's solid, and feels really well built. I can't really stress how well this compares to the $4000 machines at the gym. Well, except for that I find the resistance somewhat higher than the gym machines, but level 1 is still easy enough to use.
I did have a little trouble to begin with - nothing bad enough to drop even one star though. It does take a bit of time to put together but it was fairly simple and the instructions were very easy to follow.
IMPORTANT:
1. Buy some white lithium grease before you assemble it. This is the lubricant recommended by Schwinn. I had a lot of squeaking problems and this fixed everything. I don't think the pre-lubricated parts are adequately lubed. Just fix this while you put it together. Hit all eight pivot points.
2. Do NOT over-tighten any of the screws or bolts. It will cause squeaking. The troubleshooting guide says you can have these up to three rotations from completely tight without compromising performance. I found loosening only half a turn was enough.
That's it! It's a great machine. |

| I originally received this machine in bad shape. The shipper (Eagle) had apparently dropped it from a truck or lift. The case was cracked, the heart rate monitor didn't work, and the transformer was bad. Contacted Amazon and they were helpful by submitting a replacement order. I got another transformer and was able to use it for a couple of weeks. It worked great except for the looks and heart rate monitor. Finally got the replacement 2 days ago and put the new one together. It shipped by ABF and had no issues. Have been using it since. Great machine and you can't beat it along with the $100 gift card and free shipping. The machine is smooth as silk with the heavy flywheel and has lots of program options. |

| When my wife and I began shopping for an elliptical trainer, I feared I would have to spend about $2,000 to get a quality machine. I am happy to say we bought this Schwinn 431 around Christmas 2007 for $899 and have been very pleased with our purchase. I have been very impressed by the quality of a Schwinn Airdyne fitness bike that we have had for many years, so I checked out the local Schwinn dealer for the elliptical trainer. We chose the 431 over the 418 because it has a more compact design and has an attached fan to help cool you while exercising. We paid more than what we could have bought it for on Amazon, but the store took care of assembly and delivered for free. We both have used it almost daily, we get a good workout and the unit seems to be good quality that will last a long time. One thing that stands out is how quiet the machine is. You can watch TV with the volume at a normal level while working out...no more TV blaring when someone is exercising! The unit did develop an annoying squeak after a few days. I simply sprayed WD-40 along both tracks and haven't heard a peep since. This machine appears solid and well-made, I weigh 200 lbs. and I am certainly comfortable using it. I have a friend who is about 6-3 and at least 250 lbs. He tried the machine for a while with no problem, but my thought was a guy that big should probably look for a more substantial unit. I think this Schwinn 431 is good value for the money and I highly recommend it! |

My husband and I were looking for an inexpensive elliptical machine so we could both work out without spending tons of money on a gym membership we wouldn't use. After going to different stores and trying all their machines, we settled on this one.
Assembly:It took us a leisurely 3 hrs, with breaks and watching a football game, to assemble this machine. Everything was clearly labeled and the provided tools were adequate. Directions were clear and logical, parts clearly labeled and wonderfully packaged. We had to take it out of the box to put it in our car, but everything survived just fine.
Use:We love the way that this machine has a stride that doesn't incorporate lots of height. It's a wonderfully smooth lateral motion which we both appreciate. The different workout programs are wonderful, and although the onboard fan doesn't do a whole lot, we're not counting that against it. After some initial squeaks and creaks, we loosened one or two bolts a hair and the machine has been running whisper-quiet ever since. My two cats, who are very sound-sensitive, will curl up right next to the machine while we use it. In an apartment complex, silence was important so our neighbors wouldn't complain; if our cats aren't bothered, our neighbors won't even know we're working out if we use it at 3 in the morning!
Size/Stability: My husband is 6', I'm 5'8" so this machine fits wonderfully. It doesn't take up a lot of space in our bedroom, and for our small apartment that's crucial for us. Even on soft carpet, it only lightly sways when one is running on high speed; it's not noticeable to the user at all. It's so quiet that I'm able to watch tv or use my ipod, and not damage my ears or bother the neighbors by having to turn the volume up super-high.
All in all, we have been extremely impressed with this machine in terms of assembly, price, and performance. Even the machines I've used in gyms weren't as smooth and as comfortable a stride as this one, and we both consider it a very good investment. |

| Like the others have said. Its great. It is very smooth. I did have the same click/did same fix. It was easy to put together.about 1.5 hours.I use my own tools since they work better/and a little faster than the ones that come with it. But those also work with out any real problems. Seems steady. Quality seems closer to the higher costing ones. Not to say it is better than them just good quality. And I did just to see how they all compare try some up to $4000 in price. Yes they were very nice. But for the money I had to spend. This is a very good second pick. At $799.00 free shipping and a $100 gift card ( after that it would be $699.00 ) it is a great deal. I did not get the 3 year extended warranty. I have never paid for a extended warranty. And have never thought I should have gotten one. Most all of the things I have bought have lasted (maybe I have been lucky ) at least as long as I have expected if not longer. Online research helps. |

I am so pleased with this machine. I purchased it about 2 weeks ago and having been using it faithfully. First of all, I want to say that I have severe arthritis in both hips and this machine allows me to use it carefully without creating serious stress on my hips as such would a treadmill or a recumbent bike. I have used many ellipticals and it is very hard to beat the several thousand dollar club machines.
That said, I am amazed at how smooth this machine is. Usually it takes a few uses of any elliptical machine for your body to acclimate to its rotations. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I moved right into the groove of this machine. Five minutes into my first use felt like I've been using it for months.
Today, I went to Sears and got on about 8 different elliptical machines ranging from $300 - $1200 "on sale." The only machine that came close in quality and yet did not beat it in smoothness and quality was the $1200 "on sale" Nordic Trac model. I felt the highest price Nordic Trac was a good machine, but I would honestly prefer the Schwinn 431. The other 7 machines felt very stiff and sterile and difficult in their stride. They just felt cheap!
The Schwinn 431 is so smooth and has many features that make it not only a great deal, but an almost must buy. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, great exercise machine that is gentle on your body but excellent for the cardio, then look no further. Even if I had 4 or 5K to spend on a machine, I do not think I would waste the money. This machine is giving me a great workout and it just FEELS GOOD! It is built solid, it rides smooth and I can just tell by its construction and feel that it will give me many years of great exercise. And let's face it, in the most important aspect of any exercise we must ask ourselves the question: Is it helping my cardiovascular system? This one does the job and it does it well.
UPDATE:
I'VE BEEN USING THIS MACHINE 4-5 TIMES A WEEK NOW FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. I AM EVEN MORE PLEASED NOW THEN I WAS THEN. THIS MACHINE IS WORTH AT LEAST DOUBLE OF WHAT IT IS SELLING FOR. I AM NOW UP TO 40 MINUTES AND I AM GETTING AN OUTSTANDING WORKOUT. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT UNLIKE OTHER WORKOUTS THAT A WHILE TO GET GOING BECAUSE OF THE LABORIOUS NATURE OF THEM, I JUMP ON THIS AND AM READY RIGHT AWAY. THERE IS SOMETHING WONDERFUL ABOUT THE ELIPTICAL MACHINES AND THIS ONE IS RIGHT UP THERE FOR QUALITY. |

| Like many other postings, I bought this elliptical after a bit of research, but the everday low price plus the $100 gift certifcate convinced me to take a chance. My trainer arrived as scheduled and in good condition. It took me between 2-3 hours to assemble. I took the time to read the instructions carefully and double check my work in order to try and prevent any down-the-road problems...so far so good. I have been using the Schwinn 431 for about a month now (almost daily) without any issues/noises/squeaks. It is quiet, smooth, and provides a nice range of options/features. It seems to be a solid machine and I look forward to many years of use. If your interested in buying a new elliptical trainer, look no further, the Schwinn 431 is a nice machine at any price! |

Love this elliptical! It feels just as smooth as my favorite elliptical at the local Y. I just wanted to comment on the shipping, as this was my biggest concern when purchasing.
I chose the Super Saver FREE Shipping that was available at the time-That's right-FREE! I was apprehensive when I read nightmare reviews elsewhere about shipment of this item. I needn't have been. When I received the call to confirm delivery time, I asked if I would need help moving the item. I was told that it was a "thresh-hold" delivery and that it would be brought into my home! (First floor only) This was great!
The driver called to alert me about 30 minutes before arrival. The delivery men were incredibly helpful and placed the box in my garage, right where I wanted it. This allowed my to unload the box at my convenience to move the pieces upstairs. (I did need help with this part--the flywheel part is heavy and awkward.) I was thrilled when I inventoried the box and found EVERYTHING was there and easy to identify. With 2 youngsters running around, it took my husband and I (mostly my husband--He actually follows instructions-meticulously.) probably 2-3 hours. Love it! |

| I purchased the Schwinn 431 elliptical on 3/26/08. It is the best piece of equipment I bought for my gym. Myself, wife, son & daughter use it every day and we all love it. It is very quite and smooth. Originally we were considering the 430 but for extra $100.00 the 431 comes with backlit console, a cooling fan and not to mention the cushioned pedals. Amazon was a great place to buy with free shipping and a $100.00 coupon at the checkout. I highly recommend the 431 to anybody who is looking for a budget elliptical. |
Over weight, over 60, bad ankle

I really took a chance when I bought this machine 2 weeks ago, but I was desperate. In the past year my ankle has precluded me from most aerobic exercises, and I noticed that I was becoming increasingly out of breath when I climbed my stairs. I heard that elliptical machines were easy on the joints so I decided to take a chance on this machine after reading the good reviews. I am so glad I did.
In the first few days I was only able to exercise for a few minutes at a time, but once I got into the rhythm of the exercise I was able to exercise for a full 30 minutes (provided I had a good movie to watch). My ankle did not hurt after exercising and in fact I think the exercise is helping the ankle. After a few days I was even able to see a difference when climbing the stairs.
I used the "quick start" manual program and averaged around 3 miles an hour while working up a decent sweat. I hope to work up to some of the programmed exercise routines in the future.
The machine is amazingly quiet and smooth and the small foot print is a plus. I just tucked the machine into a corner of the seating area in my basement. My husband is very mechanically inclined and was able to put the machine together in a few hours. He was impressed by how well the various pieces were laid out and the quality of the instructions. We did use some lithium grease when assembling the machine (as other's suggested) and plan to keep some on hand for periodic maintenance. So far we have not heard any squeaks. |

| Hello everyone... my husband and I researched for a week to find the best at home elliptical. One that didn't cost an outragous price either! We ended up going with the Schwinn 431. It got the best reviews. People complained how long it took to put it together. My husband and I did it in an hour. Which is not bad at all! It was pretty simple. The squeaky noise some people talked about, I got. My husband looked at it and found that the arms were screwed in to tight! Just a little adjusting and it is fine! So if you are looking for a great elliptical, this is the one. I bought it on Amazon and saved $100.00 and got free shipping! I do recomend you get a warranty! We went with the 2yr. Hope this helped and goodluck! |

Wow, this is a great machine. FYI: Im a novice trying to stick to my new years resolution. My husband and I went to sears and dicks sporting goods looking at elliptical machines around $[...]-$[...]. We looked at the new nordic tracks that come with ifit for awhile however when we looked online for reviews, pretty much everyone said it was either broken we they received it or within months they had major problems. We went back to sears to look at them again to decide for ourselves and while on the machine (NordicTrack Elliptical, Audio Strider 800) a woman came up to me with her husband and warned me not to get it b/c 3 months after she got hers, it broke and they had so much trouble getting it fixed, not to mention the expense. So ultimately we found this machine at dicks and i really liked it. Not too many bells and whistles just a basic machine. Unfortunately dicks didnt have any in stock when i went to buy it, then shortly after, stop selling it entirely. I saw that Amazon was selling it for $[...] which was $[...] more than dicks. My husband was very reluctant to buy online, so it took some convencing but....he thought about it for a week and we went online to buy it and found it was on sale for $[...]. We ordered it on Feb.10th and received it Feb.13th. We went with the supersave shipping since it made shipping free (which was supposed to make shipping take even longer but hey im not complaining). I cant believe how fast it came!
Ive only had the machine now for 1 day and only used it twice but Im very satisfied. My husband said the set up was time consuming but not difficult, there was one little scratch on the front of the machine, its on the bottom hardly even noticable. This machine has a smooth glide, whisper quite and so far no problems. The fans a little cheap, doesnt put out to much but I like the cup and towel holder. Will write another reveiw in the following months. |
